Team FCR digitally transforms the Forum Kunst & Architektur Essen

In this project, we embarked on a unique mission. Using an iPhone and a 360° camera, specifically the Insta360, we conducted 3D scanning of the office where the late photographer Karl Lang worked. After cleaning and texturing the scanned data in Blender, we set out to create an augmented reality experience.

Within the project, we crafted an experience that transports you directly into the Forum Kunst und Architektur Gallery. We placed a 1x1 meter QR code in the center of the gallery, which linked to an Instagram effect.

Through this effect, you were able to display Karel Lang's entire office in its actual size, within the gallery environment. We effectively transported the artist's workspace into the gallery, utilizing modern technologies.

The primary focus of this project was to preserve and present the artist's studio as it was after his passing. With the help of these innovative technologies, we successfully preserved and showcased the artist's working environment.

At the same time, we created accompanying postcards for this exhibition, which functioned as a marker for augmented reality. Everyone could take a postcard with them and see Karel Lang's studio in a reduced form at home. Each time he could symbolically take a part of the artist home with him

Forum Kunst und Architecture web experience

Our web-based project is a testament to the innovative possibilities of merging art and technology. By 3D scanning the Forum Kunst und Architecture gallery with an iPhone and capturing textures using a camera, we meticulously recreated the space in Blender.

Through Unity, we transformed the gallery into an immersive, game-like experience and made it accessible on the web. From the comfort of your home, you can explore the virtual gallery, walking through its captivating spaces via your web browser.

We have also integrated enlarged photographs by the late, renowned local photographer Karl Lang, together with the portal to his studio, which we also 3D scanned.

We are showcasing the potential of VR gallery exhibitions. Join us in experiencing the future of art exhibitions in the virtual realm.
